Fresh Breath Treatments

No one likes bad breath! At A Smile Above Design Inc. we offer extensive diagnositics into the origin of bad breath (halitosis) so that we can eliminate the cause rather than just mask the odor. Like you, we want to find a permanent solution to the problem.

Bad breath can be caused by a number of things but most often it is bacteria on the tongue, between the teeth, and in the space between the gum and teeth. We have a number of tools to analyse the bacteria and see what is causing the problem so that we can offer a solution specific to eliminating/reducing the type of bacteria causing your specific problem.

BANA, a quick 5 minute chairside test, tells us if there are any red complex bacteria - these are often related to gum disease and bad breath. We can also do what is called Oral Chromatography which gives an analysis of the gases present in your breath. This is also a test we can do quickly in office and will provide a graphical representation.

Often we will also do microbial slides and have them analyzed at a lab so that they can help us pin point the source of infection. Again, this is quick and easy. We use the mirror, explorer and floss to retrieve some plaque samples to place on the slide, send it of and quickly get the results. Once we have the results we can treat the infection with an appropriate antibiotic rinse or cream in the area required.
