Dental Implants
A dental implant is another alternative to replacing one or more missing teeth. It is ideal when the teeth adjacent to the space are unrestored, or do not require restorations. (As 'dental people' we hate to cut away good tooth structure.)
This procedure is a bit more involved than the bridge discussed in the earlier post. We would refer you to a specialist to have the actual implant post placed into the bone. It can take three to six months for the implant to completely integrate into the bone. After it is integrated it will be exposed during a second procedure and a collar placed. After this procedure the specialist will send you back to our office where we will place a crown on the implant. In cases where you've had two or more implants placed we can place individual crowns, or bridges to replace the missing teeth. Each situation is slightly different. An impression is taken of the exposed implant collar/post and sent to the lab were the restoration is made. At the next appointment we will place the crowns/bridge and you're ready to go.
